Systems I own

As I said in my previous blog, I've been gaming since I was a little baby. In this blog I'll be going over all the systems I own currently. Think of it as a review/my personal experience with them.

SNES:
Starting off Strong with the SNES. I spent sleepless nights playing many different games from Donkey Kong Country to Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars. I got to the last boss of Seven Stars when I was pretty young, and not familiar with RPGs at the time, I was pretty proud of myself. Unfortunately, my grandma loaned it to a friend of mine that overwritten every save file. Years later I finally got around to playing it again and I did beat it.

My favorite games would have to be the Super Star Wars games. They're a prime example of what movie based games should be like, sticking as close as it can to the source material while providing a fun experience to the gamer playing them. However they're also pretty challenging, I don't think I have ever beat Super Return of the Jedi once because of the Death Star escape sequence.

Even though I had many games for the SNES, I didn't have all of the major games like Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, and Starfox. I did get Starfox years later and had fun playing it. I still would like to have had it while I was growing up though.

SEGA GENESIS:
Yes I was fortunate enough to be a child that owned both the Genesis and SNES. I never sided with either SEGA or Nintendo growing up, they both provided fun games for me. I played the hell out of all of the Sonic games and getting all of the Chaos Emeralds. My favorite game in the Sonic games on Genesis would have to be Sonic 3 with Sonic and Knuckles attached on it.

Other than the Sonic games I loved playing The Lost World Jurassic Park. It is another good example of a game based on a movie that doesn't bore you. I remember it having a fun arcade like experience that doesn't get to hard or to easy. I recall it having different gameplay mechanics from level to level sometimes. I'll have to play it again soon.

I didn't own that many Genesis games, but I do like the games that I do have for it. Sonic is a must have if you own a Genesis.

N64:
The N64 was my favorite system back in the day. I had that thing going almost 24/7 playing everything from Mario to Zelda to Jet Force Gemini to Donkey Kong 64. I had the most fun with Star Wars Rogue Squadron when it came out. However no matter how hard I tried I could never get all of the Gold Medals on it.

The most memorable game I played on it was Jet Force Gemini. It's one of my top games to play if I get board of playing video games. I spent over two years trying to get everything done in the game mostly because I didn't have the internet or a guide most of the time.

I owned a healthy number of N64 games that I go back to play from time to time. It may be kinda old, but the games are still fun to play.

Dreamcast:

This was my first game system that was disc based, and boy did I love it. Like with the Genesis I didn't get many games for it, but the games I did get for it, I played them for hours on end. I got mine shortly after it came out with Sonic Adventure. I loved playing it, however I didn't know that you needed a memory card to save your progress and that threw me a curve ball for a while until I got one.

Other than the Sonic games, I loved Wacky Races. It's my all time favorite racing game for the Dreamcast. I remember spending hours playing as every character trying to figure out who's the best for what track. When I unlocked Dick Dastardly, I felt accomplished because he was the definition of a cheating AI.

Sadly this isn't my first Dreamcast you're looking at. The one I bought quit working when I tried playing a Buzz Lightyear game on it. It didn't want to read any disc after that. Took forever to find a new one to replace it with.

GameCube:
I cannot talk about the GameCube without first mentioning Star Wars Rogue Squadron II. That one game blew my mind when I got it. I wouldn't touch any other game for about a month. After coming home from school and doing my homework I was playing Rogue Squadron II non stop.

Unlike previous generations of systems, I didn't own that many Gamecube games compared to the PS2. However I've probably spent more time playing them than most PS2 games I have so it kinda evens out. The one game I probably spent the most time on was Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 and 2 plus. All 5 of my memory cards have characters on them because I couldn't help myself but to keep playing it over and over again. I'm just sad I never beat the game on the hardest difficulty.

I do own the big hit Gamecube games like Zelda, Melee, Starfox, and the Metroid Prime series. My only regret is not buying Luigi's Mansion. I remember renting it and not liking it very much at first. Then I rented it again because I never completed it and loved it. Never could find a copy to buy and when I did, I didn't have the money to buy it.

PS2: (Fat PS2 not in picture)
While I did own a PS1, I had little reason to keep it since the PS2 could play PS1 games and play DVD movies. That's why I love the PS2, not only can you play two generations of games, you can watch movies on it. It's going to be hard picking out a favorite game because I love them all.

I probably own the most games for the PS2 that I still enjoy playing. It has the strongest library of games that rivals the SNES library. Now before you go calling me a fanboy I still have a few complaints about both my slim PS2 and Fat PS2.

My slim PS2 has this weird thing where it wont read the disc sometimes but once it does, it's good to go. The Fat PS2 still works fine but it wont read PS1 games or any dark colored disc like Rez or I think Kingdom Hearts disc is blue colored on the bottom but I can't locate where I have the game right now so I'll get back to that later.

PS3:

The PS3 is one of my most played systems ever. I've literally spent hundreds of hours playing several games. I still own my PS2 because my PS3 can't play PS2 games which is kind of a bummer, but I would have to start my games from scratch so it's no big deal. Not only can it play games but it doubles as a bluray player.
Picking a favorite game would be difficult for me because I like most of my games I get for it a lot. I would have to say I have a soft spot for White Knight Chronicles and its sequel White Knight Chronicles 2. It's a JRPG that not only has a single player story but an online mode as well. I got addicted to it for nearly an entire year playing online with a bunch of friends. Sadly I've left the game, maybe I'll return.
Another thing I like about the PS3 is it's free to play online called PSN, unlike its competitor, the X-box 360.
I spend most of my time on PSN when I can playing with my friends.
Wii:
I will admit that at first I had no interest in a Wii. The controller, while innovative, didn't appeal to me at first. After buying one and trying it out, I didn't exactly fall in love with it, but I became a fan of the Wii. I just wished it played movies besides on Netflix.

My favorite game on the Wii is the best version of Resident Evil 4. The controls and the game fit together like a glove on a hand. The aiming with the Wii Mote is near perfect and way better than using a controller. It even has the extra content that was on the PS2 release.

I also like downloading classic games of the Nintendo virtual console store. They have many SNES, NES, N64, and several SEGA Genesis games.

Portable Systems: (Not pictured is GBA and GBC)
I'm going to keep this short. I don't have that many games for all of them but I usually play them when I'm going to bed. Overall I play with the DS the most but I do have a few good games for the PSP.

Check out my next blog where I review my first game on here coming sometime in the next 48 hrs.
